Ron Paul & Politico.com

November 25, 2007

The Facts

A spokesman from Politico.com was on Fox News today talking about Ron Paul. When challenged by Fox News as to why the sudden interest in Ron Paul, the spokesman stated “well, he’s raising a lot of money via the internet, so we have to start talking about him”.

My View

Now listen to this again! “Ron Paul is raising a lot of money, so we have to start talking about him“. Maybe I am old fashion, and maybe I am seeing & hearing things in a different manner than most. But to declare that we must start listening to a political candidate just because he is raising a lot of cash is about as ignorant as you can get. Has Ron Paul’s position on issues changed as a result of raising a lot of money? I know money is the only thing that gets a lot of people’s attention, but, my God is this what we are basing our decision on for which political candidate we listen too?

I admit that Politico.com is one of the many places I go for reading headlines. But this guy is out of line. The size of a politician’s war chest should not determine who we should be talking about and who we should not be talking about. We should be talking about where they stand on issues regardless of how much money they have raised.

I whole heartedly agree. Perhaps Ron Paul is popular because his policies would make the ones portayed in this book more difficult to perform:

It may not matter philosophically, but it makes them scared.

Hear ya. CNN had a story on about how many times Ron Paul’s name had been mentioned by news networks – was something like 5,000. They compared it to John McCain 95,000. Has McCain raised 20 times more money than Paul? Of course not – it’s a little more than money.

The press talks more about Huckabee now – but he isn’t raising much money- nor is Fred Thompson.

Ron Paul is a little too deep for the folks at Fox News- they giggle at the gold standard and at the idea of dismantling Homeland Security- while their boss is trying to get Rudy elected .
How do you define a free election?

Money is what gets a candidate elected- people have to spend money to get their person elected-
A candidate has to raise money – yet Ron Paul has found the new way to do it – and that really scares some folks who thought they could feed us war propaganda and we would succumb to their fear tactics like a flock of sheep.
