United Airlines Outsourcing Maintenance to China

December 20th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Airline Industry, Big Business

December 20, 2007

The Facts

CNN filed a report tonight on the status of United Airlines’ outsourcing of the maintenance on their airplanes to China. In China, only supervisors are required to be licensed. China does not require drug & alcohol testing, and no background checks for security are performed.

My View

Outsourcing; this has become a dirty word to American workers. And there seems to be no end to it. Other airlines are also outsourcing their maintenance to foreign countries. Big business has become so greedy & corrupt that only profits matter, regardless of the cost. I realize that it’s only been in recent months that all the news about China’s bad business practices has come out, but so far it has mainly affected only toys, which is bad enough in it self. But to put our airplanes at risk, which carry hundreds of passengers at a time, is criminal to say the least. There is no limit to corporate greed.

It is obvious that our government is not going to address this problem, especially the Republicans. So it is up to our ordinary citizens. Just what will it take before we will take up “pen & paper” and bombard our government; or, organize by the millions and march into Washington and demand honesty & decency? It doesn’t take physical force to achieve this kind of goal. Just think about all the other organizations with far less people that have succeeded in such a way. Again, just what will it take?

I am so glad I finally found this article. I was searching and searching for this info, which I was certain I’d heard about many months ago in passing. It is so weird knowing something like this and NOT having the reporters ask this hard(?) question to United in regards to these wire bundle issues, “Who bundled your wires?”.
Would you mind if at some point in the future I posted a link to this article? Thank you very much.

Thanks Gina for reading my post. By all means, link to this or any other of my post. If we all stick together, we can get things like this changed. Too many coorporations put profits ahead of safety.

The cost to taxpayers is the same.
The only question is who will pay for it and when!
