The Facts
A House Committee chaired by Democrat Henry Waxman held hearings today on the allegations that Roger Clemens used steroids during his rise to stardom in the baseball world. At the hearing was also Brian McNamee, the former trainer for Clemens, who claimed he had given Clemens steroid injections.
My View
I’ll get right to the point; Henry Waxman should just have invited Roger Clemens out back, lined him up on the wall, and had him executed. It became very obvious about one-third the way through the hearings that Waxman had already tried Clemens and found him guilty.
(Before you start accusing me of being a Roger Clemens fan, let me tell you that I have not been a baseball, football, or basketball fan in over 25 years. I gave that up when players started insisting that the game was all about them as individuals rather than the team. Before today, I couldn’t have even told you which team or teams Clemens played for.)
The first evidence of prejudices was when Waxman decided to read his comments that were nothing more than innuendos about Clemens. Clemens two lawyers, who were sitting behind Clemens, immediately jumped to their feet and started protesting by saying the comments were nothing more than innuendos, to which Waxman banged his gavel and told them they were not allowed to speak. Still protesting, the lawyers were again told to sit down and shut up. The next series of evidence supporting Waxman’s made up mind was how he handled the other House Representatives on the panel when they were submitting their statements and questions. Those that were speaking to and questioning Brian McNamee as to his truthfulness were often cut short by Waxman, and sometimes disciplined by Waxman. However, those that were speaking to and questioning Clemens were given a lot of leniency by Waxman. With few exceptions, it was Democrats on McNamee’s side and Republicans on Clemens’ side.
In his closing speech, Henry Waxman admonished Roger Clemens pretty bad, to which Clemens tried to defend himself. Waxman interrupted Clemens and told him his time was up and he wouldn’t be allowed to argue. Then Waxman turned to Brian McNamee with kind words of praise and told him that he, Waxman, was proud of what he, McNamee, had done.
So here we are again; because of our corrupt and biased elected officials, the actual truth will never really be known. As usual, the only reason for the hearings is so that these yahoos on capital hill can grandstand before the cameras.
