The Facts
With Democrats in control of Congress now, they have taken aim at the entire drug industry. Several investigations are either already underway or planned. The pharmaceutical industry seems to be circling the wagons. Democrat Representative Bart Stupak said “You know you’re hitting a nerve when the halls are flooded with their lobbyists”.
My View
Short, sweet, and to the point; why is the drug companies so afraid to have their business practices and their involvement with our elected officials investigated? Just what kind of special “considerations” did they get for pouring $90 million into campaign funds over the past fourteen years? Why does PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufactures of America) need 36 lobbying firms at a cost of $10 million per year?
The bipartisan House Commerce Committee and even some Republicans are involved in the investigation. No matter what your biases are, this falls under the age old adage of “if you have nothing to hide, then there is no reason to be afraid”.
