The Facts
New York Governor Eliot Spitzer held a press conference yesterday basically admitting that he hired a prostitute for her services. The news media is reporting that he brought her to Washington DC and met her in a hotel there. The price tag for her services has been reported at $5,500.
My View
Spitzer had his eye on the highest government office in the nation, the Presidency, and he was certainly working his way up to it. But in one swift whoop, that is now impossible. This illegal impropriety was about to be exposed by federal investigators, so Spitzer beat them to the punch by going public. Therefore, no one can doubt his guilt, but that doesn’t stop the politicians from making this only about politics.
The Republicans are having a field day with this information, but have no doubt that if this was a Republican governor, the Democrats would be doing the same thing. Within days this will be forgotten as an immorality and a crime, although those facts may be mentioned from time to time on the “back page” of some reports. But it will be used for months, possibly years, as a political tool. What will not be admitted by either political party is that this kind of conduct has become the norm for both parties, and that a cultural mindset must take place in our political arena.
Many Republican mouth pieces are calling Spitzer a hypocrite, which is certainly true, but they themselves are also hypocritical because they are not so outspoken when the offender is Republican. Again, the Democrats are no different. This is another cultural mindset that must be changed if we are to survive as a nation, but, like the politicians, the mouth pieces will not change either. The absolute truth is, as a whole, our politicians and mouth pieces have set the standard by adopting a policy of ‘its ok to do it as long as you can get away with it’. And it doesn’t matter which political party you advocate; on this point, there is no difference.
