Campaign 2010

Countdown to Congressional Elections

The most effective way to restrict democracy is to transfer decision-making from the public arena to unaccountable institutions: kings and princes, priestly castes, military juntas, party dictatorships, or modern corporations.

Who’s In White House When Recession Hits?

March 14, 2008

The Facts

George Bush made a speech today about the economic situation of our country, but still refuses to say we are in a recession in spite of the fact that all the economic experts in the country, including those who support him, say we are in a recession. He just continues to say we are in “tough times”.

My View

Everyone knows Bush is trying to do two things during his last year in office; establish his legacy and give as much money as possible to his rich friends. Bush proved the latter once again today when he mentioned that the Democratic Congress needs to make the temporary tax breaks permanent before time runs out in 2010. He seems to never miss an opportunity to mention that every time he is in front of a camera.

Let’s take a look at who was in office every time we have had a recession in the past 30 years. The last recession came in 1992. That was the first year Bill Clinton, a Democrat, was in office after 12 years of Ronald Reagan and the first George Bush, Republicans. And if you are trying to blame Clinton, just remember that the first year a President is in office he is having to deal with the last Presidents budget and budget mess. Now, when was the last recession before 1992; it was 1976. And who was in office then; Gerald Ford, Republican. 1977 was the last of his two years in office after he took over after six years of Richard Nixon, Republican. Jimmy Carter, Democrat, had to deal with that mess. Now we are in another recession after seven years of the second George Bush, Republican, and most likely a Democrat will have to deal with this recession that came about under a Republican President.

Ok, so you say I am a Democrat throwing rocks at the Republicans. No, I am not a Democrat; I have been an Independent since Nixon. Also, I do not place all the blame for every recession on the Republicans. The damn Democrats certainly have a lot of responsibility for those recessions. What I am trying to say is those who are trying to put that halo over Republicans heads and angel wings on their backs need to wake up and smell the roses. Although the Democrats played their part in all these recessions, each of those past Republican Presidents who were in office when a recession hit were also saying that “trickle down economics” was the answer, just like our current President. And that is not the answer. Less spending, keeping jobs in America, quite subsidizing big business and the lazy, eliminating greed & corruption, and smart spending is the answer to a strong economy; not trickle down economics, or what ever term you are using today that means the same thing.

Recent, reliable sources are confirming that not all of Bush’s cronies are making money anymore. They further state that what they’d really like most at this point in time is to get this imbecile’s (Bush) mouth duck-taped, put in a straight jacket and locked in a closet until his term’s end. Evidently his ignorant proclamations are only amplifying Wall St.’s jitters and if he pushes things any further with public appearances, he just might end up being the leader of the pack that gets bit in the ass by his own kind!

  • “Conservatives Must Get It”

The most recent version of “conservatism” sold to the voting public this past decade, along with President Bush’s sinking popularity have not helped Senator John McCain. Now with the Republican base losing seats in the House and people choosing to “go gaa gaa” over a man such as Obama with no experience, should send a message loud and clear to Senator McCain. I confess, though I said “loud and clear” I didn’t mean that it was going to be “plain and simple”! But I’ll make an attempt.

What do the Republicans have this time around? “Not much” (though Senator McCain is fully capable on all fronts). And the Dem’s, they have a Party that is divided, no matter how thick they get that sugar-coating on their “unity packaging”. So what else do they have? They have “a possible, first time woman” and “a possible first time black man”. I’m going to steer clear of making neither gender or race being an issue here and state that “the voters have made gender and race the sticking points”, not me or the press! Conservatives must realize that with this natural occurence, a prevailing unpopular Republican atmosphere, coupled with “the voters” making “gender and race the sticklers” it means that “the Center has moved” and it “isn’t” to the Right!

The Dem’s can smile at me until the cows come home with “cheers of unity”, the fact of the matter is (rebuffing anything Zogby releases):

    – If Obama wins the nomination at least “50% of Hillary voters” would feel better voting for McCain if Clinton was his VP choice

    - And “75% of Hillary voters” would switch to McCain, should Hillary just dropout altogether.

We can go on and on with these variables, but to steal a page from the Reverend Dr Martin Luther King, “keep your eyes on the prize”. It is “not” time for a Republican candidate to get ethical in his choice for Vice President when he’s up against such a vast vacum of a thirst for change. “Change”, get it? If Senator McCain wants to seriously win this thing then he, his Party and his loyal followers must deflect that sugar-coated shine of the opposing camp, and “do them one better”. He must pick “a Republican liberal, black female” to pull this off! No, it might not have been in his Party’s cards, but “Time and Tide, wait for no man”. And “this moment in time” the weapon of choice for a Republican who wants to seriously be President, demands “a black, female, liberal Republican”!
