The Facts
A report surfaced a few days ago that said Iraq had an $80 billion surplus from oil production and sales. That money is being invested, much of it in American banks and businesses, rather than helping in war cost and reconstruction. America continues to spend billions of our own dollars in Iraqi reconstruction.
My View
In early March of this year I wrote another post on this issue, suggesting this money will be used later to finance attacks on America. Most of the mainstream news outlets reported on this money buildup, but it caught little attention. For whatever reason, it seems to be getting a lot more news media attention this time around. Maybe that’s because the race for the presidency is getting very tight.
With the piggybank (taxpayer money) George Bush and Dick Cheney has been robbing over the past 7 plus years, why should we expect anything different now. Let me give you something to think about; if we insist Iraq use their money for reconstruction we (government leadership) will have no control on who Iraq hires for reconstruction. They could easily go outside the US for a prime contractor. Where might that leave Halliburton, Dick Cheney’s old company? But as long as we are spending the American taxpayer’s money, we control who the prime contractor is.
With the proven track record of this administration, nothing would surprise me. Arrogance beyond definition has been a mainstay with them. I rather doubt there will be any progress on getting Iraq to spend their money before this current regime ends.
