The Facts
With the exception of one news outlet, everyone has been, and still is, talking about John McCain changing his mind concerning regulating the business world, in particular the insurance and financial institutions. Beginning earlier this week, McCain has not only embraced regulation, but is demanding it in the face of the taxpayers being ripped off just to make a lot of rich people richer. He called it “reckless conduct, corruption and unbridled greed” on Wall Street. He went on to say “government has a clear responsibility to act in defense of the public interest, and that’s exactly what I intend to do. We’re going to enact and enforce reforms to make sure that these outrages never happen in the first place”.
My View
This is exactly the kind of thing that has given me doubt about wanting John McCain as my president. Although I never did agree with deregulation (which begin in the 1980’s with Ronald Reagan) McCain has had a lot of policy ideas that I have agreed with. With rare exceptions, McCain was my man. That’s why I was so disappointed in him earlier this year when he caved in to the neo-conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingram, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and others, and the latter’s flocks who behave in the manner of the lemming myth. They attacked McCain so hard his wounds still bleed today, but knowing he needed those neo-conservatives votes, McCain turned. Now he’s turned on his position concerning regulation, which I don’t really believe he means. His 25-plus year stance on this issue is on record, and Phil Gramm is still his economic man.
McCain is no different than any other campaigning politician; saying what the voters want to hear. And this mess we are witnessing on Wall Street with the ordinary taxpayer being forced to bail out the greedy, McCain is changing his tune. So what is a voter to think? Where does John McCain really stand on issues that matter to the middle and lower class working people?
John McCain remembers all too well what happened to him in 2000 when running against George Bush. And he knows this is his last chance for the presidency, and by his own admission, he wants that more than anything else in the world. So I guess I should not be surprised that he is doing and saying what is popular at the time.

BILL JOHNSON

Then I guess you must in a really hissy fit over the “annointed one” Obama, who have only five or six mins in the Senate voted for deregulation, then voted for the war in Irag before he was aganst it, has NO economic or foreign policy creditials, stated that he will reduce the taxes of those already do NOT pay taxes, implement several new social programs and will pay for it all…wait for it wait for it….BUY TAXING THE OIL COMPANIES. Yeah that would really help, in a time of recession….the smartest thing you could do is to increase taxes and implement “give away programs” to those who don’t pay any taxes. Good thinging lefty Obama has steadfastly voted to increase taxes , well the truth is Obama and the left have never seen a tax bill they didn’t like.
