The Facts
Nancy Boyda just may be the perfect poster child for the way campaigns should be run. Boyda is a US House Representative from Kansas and is running for reelection this year after serving her first 2-year term in office. What’s so great about this run? Boyda is campaigning without advertising which political party she belongs to. When someone ask which party she belongs to, she just puts her arms around them; a jester which says it doesn’t matter which party I am associated with as long as I am campaigning on what you want me to do.
My View (and a few more facts)
Nancy Boyda is affiliated with the Democratic Party. So you would think she would be using that tag to her advantage since the Democrats seem to be on the high road this year. But it’s obvious she thinks party line doesn’t mean anything if your only objective is to serve the voters.
Boyda is one of the very few in the House that voted both times against the bailout bill. She refused to attend the Democratic National Convention, refused $1 million of financial help from her party, and refused to accept the health care coverage offered to Congressional members. She also refused to join a Democratic group that would have helped her attack weaker incumbents, and told those who are running ads supporting her to “stay out of my race”.
Boyda is running her own campaign this year with her husband as campaign manager, the same thing she did in 2006. That move then and now was because she lost her bid in 2004 when she hired “experts” to run her campaign; experts that stifled her agenda.
For years I have declared that if politicians dropped the “(D)” or “(R)” in front of their name, people would be making a more informed decision. But as soon as that party affiliation is known, many of those who had been listening to & hearing what the politician was saying immediately turn them off, even if what the politician was saying before was of interest. Therefore, in my mind, it’s not the politician who is hurting America; it’s the voter (& the “preservation of the party”).
Hopefully, a lot of politicians, their supporters, and the main stream media are watching Nancy Boyda and her campaign this year. If so, it’s just possible they will start getting the message; it’s not the party or politician that counts, it’s the country and citizens that count.
