The Facts
According to this article, nearly half of the $2.3 trillion spent on health care each year does nothing to improve health. The president of the Mayo Clinic said “we’re not getting what we pay for”. Kaiser Permanente of George Halvorson said “(our) health care is inefficient and wasteful”.
The article quotes a consensus with many in the health care business in that the goal of health care must revolve around “paying for results”. 16% of our GDP goes to health care, yet we rank much lower in results than nations spending much less.
My View
What is not pointed out in the article is why such big sums of money is wasted. This news source, like all others, go to great efforts to avoid the truth in such matters; GREED! As I have said in many posts before, greed is at the core of these sorts of travesties. And in this case, it’s greed of pharmaceutical companies, health care equipment manufactures, and medical facilities that have grown in to conglomerates that will settle for nothing but profits that reach into the four digit percentages each year. In their world, bigger & more wealth is better; the same way AIG conducted their business. So all we have to wait for now is the financial failure of our health care system so we taxpayers can bail them out.
