The Washington Post, Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and Harvard University’s School of Public Health recently joined on a poll of Massachusetts voters, focusing on why voters voted the way they did in last Tuesday’s special Senatorial election. Some very interesting results were revealed.
Two days ago I wrote The Signal From Massachusetts where I insisted that the Democratic upset was not due to the nations debt and/or budget deficit. I went on to explain why. Instead I said it was the way the Democrats in Congress had conducted themselves over the past year, especially on the health care bill. The referenced poll substantiates that contention.
As you may or may not know, Massachusetts has had a universal-health-care plan for several years now and 68 percent of Tuesday’s voters are pleased with the plan and support it. More than half of them were Scott Brown voters. So what does this say? It says they are upset with the Democrats for selling out the voters. And that is exactly what the Democrats did — they sold out most of the their constituents.
While the national debt has suddenly become a rallying cry and a “cause” among Republicans, and maybe a few Democrats, that is not why voters in Massachusetts voted down a Democrat. The turncoats in Congress is what lost the election. If they want to fix the problem, they’d better pay attention instead of fabricating a different reason. But that is exactly what the Republicans did — fabricated a reason for a Republican win in that state — so that’s exactly what I expect the Democrats to do; monkey see, monkey do.
