Once the main-stream news media finally acknowledged #OccupyWallStreet (seven days after the occupation began), people begin to draw comparisons between them and the tea party. Some were trying to show similarities and others were pointing out the differences. While there may have been – I say “may” have been – one or two similarities between #OWS and a few of the rank & file tea party supporters, there is not – one – single – common – core – belief. Case in point: Rick Santelli – the match that lit the tea party fuse. He represents everything the original Tea Party was against. However, there is a huge common ground between #OWS and the original Tea Party of 1776.
The 1776 Tea Party would have lynched today’s tea party. Today’s tea party is nothing more than a front group for the very things the original Tea Party was fighting against. On the other hand, the real Tea Party would have embraced #OWS.
The following chart by LasVegasJessica sums up many differences between today’s tea party and #OWS.
But the details of today’s tea party are even scarier.
To begin with, the real Tea Party would never have asked businesses to stop hiring in order to hurt the election hopes of the President of the United States; or cheered at the suggestion of letting a sick man die; or cheered for the demise of America; or tell a life-long American to leave; or demand lower taxes on the wealthy; or threaten peaceful peace-loving citizens; or demand that common workers be paid less; or demand that constraints be removed from the very people who destroyed our economy and nearly destroyed our country (Wall Street); or insist that corporations who pay little to no tax be taxed less. And they certainly would not have advocated the gutting of the Constitution.
Today’s tea party is an insult to the original Tea Party. They are pro-establishment and never cared that Wall Street has taken over our government. As one writer put it, they are nothing more than the conspiracy branch of the very political party who represents every thing the original Tea Party was against. And any one who believes that it was our national debt that fueled the rise of the tea party would also believe in little green men from Mars.
On the other hand, here’s the core belief of #OccupyWallStreet.
1) Break Up the “Too Big To Fail” Banks
2) End the System of Political Bribery (campaign finance, lobbying, revolving door)
That’s why CPS News supports #OccupyWallStreet. Which group do you support!!!???
Never underestimate the difficulty of changing false beliefs [with] facts.
