Martha Johnson was President Obama’s pick to head the General Services Administration (GSA) back in early 2010. Yesterday she resigned after the Washington Post exposed her lavish spending of $835,000 on a party for the agency at a Nevada training conference that same year. Evidently it’s OK to waste taxpayers’ money in such an arrogant way as long as the news media doesn’t find out about it.
Johnson isn’t the only GSA head to get run off for unacceptable use of tax money. Lurita Alexis Doan, who was the GSA chief from 2006 to 2008 under the George W. Bush administration, was also run off after that same Washington Post exposed her. While she wasn’t spending money on lavish parties, she was awarding contracts to close friends; which begs the question of “was she being rewarded behind the scenes” for the “goodness of her heart”? Doan was also accused of “misusing her authority for political ends” by asking political appointees how they could “help our candidates”.
Never underestimate the difficulty of changing false beliefs [with] facts.
