Today Newt Gingrich was interviewed by CNN. He spouted off several dumb “facts”, but his stupidest was when he said President Obama was “largely anti-Israeli”. Fortunately for Gingrich, most of his fans (and probably many of his adversaries) are not aware that Israel’s Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, don’t agree him.
Just yesterday Barak said “I should tell you honestly that this administration under President Obama is doing, in regard to our security, more than anything that I can remember in the past [even Bush?]. The defense relation between Israel and the United States are extremely stable and good.” [bold emphasis added]
Furthermore, last year Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, praised Obama for opposing Palestine’s statehood request. And, even the American Jewish Committee knows Obama’s commitment to Israel is solid.
But in keeping with their policy of ‘handle-Republicans-with-kid’s-gloves’, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien allowed Gingrich’s comment’s to pass without challenging him.
And we wonder why so many politicians and pundits aren’t afraid to out-right lie on camera, and why so many people believe those lies.
