As I have pointed out, Republicans could never ever win another Presidential Election on a level playing field – and they know it. And since their 4-year war on Obamacare has resulted in a complete disaster for them and their efforts to produce an IRS scandal over conservative PAC’s looks to end the same way, they have placed their full focus on the only thing they have left that could them win the 2016 election.
As Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Republican Darrell Issa has spent the majority of his efforts on a witch hunt trying to build a scandal surrounding the 2012 attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya. Although he occasionally put former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in his crosshairs, his main target was always President Obama. However, he appears to be shifting his attention back to Clinton.
Issa’s refocus is most likely due to the results of others in his Party and the conservative media escalating their attack on Clinton over the Benghazi issue. But why all this attention on Hillary Clinton?
Clinton is being pressured from all sides to run for President in 2016. And let’s face it, Democrats honestly don’t have anyone else who could stand up to a billionaire-financed GOP nominee and have a fighting chance. Vice-President Joe Biden is a really nice guy, but he wouldn’t stand much of a chance if the right Republican was picked. The GOP knows this. And they believe if they could find something on Clinton to discredit her, or if they can just convince enough voters that she’s guilty of something, that would remove the major obstacle in their road to the Presidency.
The latest attack on Clinton was recently escalated when House Speaker John Boehner announced that he was going to appoint a 7-member select committee to “investigate” the Benghazi embassy attack, for which no less than 206 House Republican members requested to be on. But as is well documented, the decision was not based on a true belief that there’s something to be discovered. Responding to GOP donors, the stated objective is to keep the base fired up and to raise money for this year’s and the 2016 elections. Darrell Issa has proven this issue works very well at raising a lot of money.
And it doesn’t matter to them that one of their own, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA), said there was absolutely no evidence that Clinton was guilty of what his Party is blaming her for. Or that Fox’s George Will is confirming they’re using Benghazi for Presidential politics. They’re trudging forward anyway.
GOP Rep Trey Gowdy has been appointed to chair the new committee to investigate Clinton Benghazi. Gowdy claims the investigation will not be political, but he’s already calling it a “trial”. And he claims they will be transparent and fair, but he has a history of using a committee to deceive the media.
It’s not just the Benghazi issue that is being used to attack her. She’s being blamed for nearly everything and anything conservatives think might get the populace up in arms.
For example, Republicans are blaming Clinton for those 200-plus Nigerian girls that were kidnaped by Boko Haram. This latest attack was based on an “anonymous official” saying the kidnapping could have been prevented had Clinton designated Boko Haram a terrorist organization when she was Secretary of State. (Yeah, because that worked out so well after al Qaeda was dubbed a terrorist organization, didn’t it?) And, here again, one of their own – a Bush appointee – has not only debunked that claim but insist that his Party is using this just to smear Clinton.
And no conspiracy is too ignorant or old to not be used. Fox Liars is trying to revive the Vince Foster ‘murdered-by-the-Clinton’s’ conspiracy.
Then there are the other, not so vicious, attempts to smear Clinton. Fox Fools, along with war criminal Dick Cheney’s daughter, are trying to make people believe Clinton was responsible for the recent Monica Lewinsky story in Vanity Fair. Good grief! But that’s not as stupid as them claiming Clinton planned her daughter Chelsea’s pregnancy just to get “sympathy votes” in 2016 from grandmothers.
And, of course, using their ‘if-all-else-fails’ program, Fox’s assassination group attempted to plant the idea in some crazy’s head to assassinate Clinton if she did run for President. Have I said yet that there are no limits to what Republicans will do to win an election?
