For the first 3 or 4 years after George W. Bush left office there was little more than a nod from Republicans acknowledging that Bush was even President – for good reason. However, it obvious today that they were not trying to erase the Bush Presidency; rather, they were busy putting together a careful & gradual plan to rewrite Bush’s history — which seems to be coming to a head in the GOP Presidential campaign.
It actually began in late 2009. In November of that year former Bush press secretary Dana Perino claimed that the U.S. did not suffer a terrorist attack under the Bush presidency. Then a month later GOP strategist and former Dick Cheney adviser Mary Matalin blamed President Bill Clinton – who left office January 20, 2001 – for the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks.
Fast-forward to today, six years later: Bush II’s brother, Presidential candidate Jeb Bush, is literally echoing the Fox spin machine saying his brother wasn’t really responsible for 911, instead that it was Clinton’s fault. Jeb went even further saying his brother “kept us safe”, which, I guess, means Bush II was President for only seven and one-half years while Clinton served eight and one-half years. But the fact is that Bush II did serve eight years and he did know of the threat from bin Laden and that Al Qaeda operatives were already in the U.S. Yet he ignored it.
The latest to jump on the ‘911-wasn’t-Bush’s-fault’ bandwagon is GOP Presidential candidate Marco Rubio and he won’t be the last. The GOP history-rewriters are on a mission and won’t be satisfied until all history books have eradicated the facts about Bush II’s Presidency and turned him into one of the greatest Presidents ever that American loves and adores.
