"While the economy doesn't function for most of us ordinary workers, it yields considerable reward for those at the top."

Republicans Are Locked in a Passionate Embrace with a Corpse and Won't Let Go

"The most important thing Republicans think is that if there are Americans who can't afford the insurance policies that private insurers are willing to offer, then that's their problem."

"It should tell you everything you need to know that, in lobbying to retain its bank supervisory powers, the Fed's allies include the big Wall Street banks."

"[Texas Republican Jeb] Hensarling told a Texas-size whopper — and then tried to claim Republican credit for Bill Clinton’s budget surpluses."

"The Supreme Court's 5-to-4 decision last week giving American corporations the right to unlimited political spending was an astonishing display of judicial arrogance, overreach and unjustified activism."

Dear Corporate America: Your taxes are NOT being raised. Your subsidy has expired! - The Old Man

"If we cannot as a nation move away from ideologically stimulated tribal warfare and scapegoating, we are in for a very unpleasant future"Retired Army Gen. Montgomery Meigs

“For big business to now claim that the government is ‘anti-business’ is like the umpire complaining about how badly his game was refereed”Kathryn Kolbert

“Rather than ‘all for one and one for all,’ the United States’ business leaders have adopted more of a ‘one for one and all for me’ approach, detrimental to our country's economic recovery”Amy L. Fraher

“Corporate executives excuse their inexcusable refusal to hire more workers and invest in new products and technologies with the tired old saw that it’s all the government’s fault. Why John McCain Won & Lost

November 1, 2008

Entering the primary season of the 2008 presidential election, John McCain was far from being the favorite to win the Republican Primary as viewed by most of the media and media talking heads. Rudy Giuliani was seen as the very big favorite, with Mitt Romney running a close second, and Fred Thompson coming in third. The only thing that kept McCain from being dead last was Ron Paul. Most of the far right was supporting Giuliani, with an eye on Romney if Giuliani faltered. So when McCain ended up being the last man standing, most of the old George Bush far right supporters were surprised and disappointed. Continue Reading » »

McCain And Obama Campaign Promises

October 27, 2008

With just seven days before the Presidential election a lot of folks haven’t made up their mind who they really want to vote for. Naturally, the hard-core Republicans and hard-core Democrats will vote their party, and that’s just fine. But before you vote, you should know what campaign promises they have [...]

John McCain, Regulation, and Deregulation

September 19, 2008

The Facts

With the exception of one news outlet, everyone has been, and still is, talking about John McCain changing his mind concerning regulating the business world, in particular the insurance and financial institutions. Beginning earlier this week, McCain has not only embraced regulation, but is demanding it in the face of the taxpayers being ripped off just to make a lot of rich people richer. He called it “reckless conduct, corruption and unbridled greed” on Wall Street. He went on to say “government has a clear responsibility to act in defense of the public interest, and that’s exactly what I intend to do. We’re going to enact and enforce reforms to make sure that these outrages never happen in the first place”. Continue Reading » »

McCain And Obama’s Definition Of “Rich”

August 27, 2008

The Facts

Since the televised appearance at the Saddleback church with Pastor Rich Warren, there has been a lot of discussion about the two Presidential candidates’ definition of “rich” relative to who should be responsible for paying the most taxes. Barack Obama used the figure of $250,000 while John McCain tried to avoid giving a number. He attempted to discuss what tax credits, etc should be given, eventually mentioning $5 million as a possible number, but then tried to make light of that number. Since then both camps have tried to make hay with what each one of them said. Continue Reading » »

AFL-CIO Goes After McCain

March 12, 2008

The Facts

The AFL-CIO has just invested $53 million in a campaign to force John McCain to address the plight of the American working people. They intend to have members follow him around in at least 23 states demanding that he address the economic issue.

My View

Well, to begin with, John McCain has addressed the economic issue, but I don’t think it is in the way the AFL-CIO wants. Continue Reading » »
