Prisoner Torture — Cruel and Unfair or Necessary?

If we are to condone torture for enemies of the United States, what is our position going to be when an American is captured by our enemy and tortured? Confusing this issue is the attitude that has been instilled in us over the past few decades, which is the adoption of two sets of rules (or values, if you prefer). ‘One set for me and a second set for everyone else’.
