Yesterday Citigroup reported its profits (in this case, losses) for the final quarter of 2009. They lost $7.6 billion. That brings them to a total loss of $1.6 billion for 2009. But that’s not stopping them from handing out more mega-bonuses, although they’re still not able to pay all of the TARP funds back, or any of the money “borrowed” from the Federal Reserve.
Remember when all the Wall Street supporters were bragging about how AIG was going to give back a big chunk of those taxpayer funded bonuses AIG had earlier handed out? Remember how AIG CEO Edward Liddy got a lot of PR time by announcing his intentions? Well, not so fast. Liddy is gone and things have changed.
These guarantees by the FDIC, using taxpayer money, seems to be a subject that everyone wants running under the radar. The only money regularly talked about is the TARP money, and how Citigroup is “paying-it-back”! [...]
