Steven Pearlstein published his reviews today of the latest book on the financial crisis. Sounds like the most qualified of all books written on the crisis. I will read it. Meantime, I will leave you with only some comments from Pearlstein.

Wall Street’s top priority to completely defeat any and all efforts to force them back into the real world where the rest of the nation lives. To accomplish their mission they must convince the public that the problem with the economy and recovery lies in what Washington is doing to them.

Udall and Beale both are telling us that corporations and powerful people define their goals, then develop (or modify), implement and promote a self-serving economic theory that will guide the market to those goals.
If we want to keep the same mindset we’ve had for three decades now, don’t expect anything to change. Just tell your children and grandchildren that it’s perfectly acceptable to pay a large part of their income in taxes so Wall Street and the fat cats can live the reckless good life. Amen!
